PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENTS
WHAT ARE PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENTS?

Psychometric tests are psychological measurement tools used when you need an objective assessment of a person's personality, aptitude, integrity, values, learning potential and interest.

WHY DO WE USE ASSESSMENTS:

Psychologists and Psychometrists use psychometric assessments for a variety of purpose. Foxcroft & Roodt (2009) posits that psychometric assessments can help to identify strengths and weaknesses, map development or progress, make decisions regarding suitability for a job or a field of study, identify training and education needs and assist in a diagnosis. Psychometric tests can contribute to the efficiency of selection and placement in industry, if used carefully and responsibly.

WE CAN MEASURE THE FOLLOWING WITH PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENTS:

-
Aptitude: It refers to the individual's ability to acquire, with training, a specific skill or to attain a specific level of performance.

-
Personality: Personality traits or basic behavioural and emotional tendencies, and refers to the stable characteristics that the person has. It also refers to what the person is doing and what he wants to achieve.

-
Interests: An individual's score on an interest inventory reflect his/her liking or preferences for engaging in specific occupations.

-
Values: Important motivators of behaviour, because people strive to achieve or obtain the things that they value and to move away from the things that they do not value.

-
Intelligence / Ability: The general mental ability to learn and apply knowledge to manipulate one's environment, as well as the ability to reason and have abstract thoughts.

-
Wellbeing in the Workplace: The full range of aspects that contribute to an individual's assessment of his or her quality of life, including social aspects, physical and mental health, and feelings of happiness and safety.

Although I use Psychometric Assessments as part of the process I also involve other quantitative approaches (school reports, academic records, work history, etc.) in combination with a qualitative approach (interviews, biographical workbooks, self-designed activities). I believe it is at best interested of the client to use a holistic approach.
